Search Engine Optimization and Marketing

10 of the Most Important SEO Design Tips

1. Optimize every page on your website

The major search engines are not looking at individual websites and ranking them, they are ranking pages from every website in the world. This means that if your website contains more than one page you should optimize for the specific content that is found on each page.

Optimizing each webpage is overlooked by so many websites and can be the difference between competing for a highly competitive keyword phrase such as "Irish Hotels" and competing for a much less competitive keyword phrase such as "Hotels in County Galway". After that they can check out the rest of your website that is all about "Irish Hotels".

Anchor Text Explained

The anchor text is just the bit that ends up normally showing as underlined on the page, such as custom printing services.

Where it comes into the picture with regard to SEO is that getting your keyword phrases into the anchor text can help the engines better understand what the page being linked to is all about. This applies to internal links you use in your own site and also to links placed on other sites that link to your site.

Think of it this way . . .

The search engines see a link to your site. The link anchor text is something like "custom printing services ". They say to themselves, Hey, this page must be about custom printing services!

They pull all of this information back into their database and schedule their spider to go visit your page.

When they do they see a page title and content that also makes prominent mention of custom printing services. Again, they pull this information back into their database.

When their algorithm starts to work they see that there are several references to custom printing services, all of which point to this specific page on your site. Not only are there links within and outside of your site telling them so, but the content on the page reaffirms it.

So at the end of the day, you've made it very easy for the engines to tell exactly what your page is about. Thus it stands a better chance of ranking well for the term.

Copywriting Makeover: Value vs. Vision

Part I

There's no doubt. Wholesalers USA knows their customers. They've spent the time digging through log files to analyze site stats. They've spoken with customers on the phone and emailed with them. They've used client feedback to develop new products that have taken off like a rocket. Wholesalers USA understands the importance of giving the customer what s/he wants. What they needed some help with was translating that message into natural-sounding SEO copy that would deliver qualified traffic.

Web Site Design and Usability

How to Convert a Visitor in Under 8 Seconds

As you might imagine, I evaluate a lot of websites every day. Most of them do a lousy job of persuading visitors. One of the keys to persuasibility is having a product that's so obviously superior that if everyone knew what the CEO knew, they'd buy it.

Most businesses we help have a really good product/service, but many can't figure out the unique value or aren't persuaded themselves. Unfortunately, there are businesses beyond help simply because they have a lousy product/service and all they have to compensate is a lot of marketing. Marketing only accelerates the inevitable–and, especially these days, the speed of word-of-mouth will catch up with your business one way or another.

How to Measure Your We

by Bryan Eisenberg

Phony & Plastic! Are you that company? The one that claims they are the . . . #1!, leading!, premiere!, fastest!, greatest!, smartest!, most dynamic! . . . blah blah blah. All that chest-pounding translates into some anemic saccharine sweet copy. The tone is in sharp contrast to today's customer demands for greater transparency and authenticity.

Customers want the real deal. Your customers want to to know "what is in it for me?" HOW DOES YOUR COPY MEASURE UP? Care to find out?

Working on Conversions

It happens more frequently than you might think. People spend a lot of time and money getting their sites ranked highly in the search engines, but give little or no attention to converting their visitors into paying customers. What's their logic? From what copywriting prospects tell me, "I wanted to get my rankings in place before working on my conversions."

It may look as though I'm sitting firmly on the fence; however, I don't think SEO and conversions are separate entities. I believe you need to work on them together. Let me tell you why from a copywriting and marketing standpoint.
